Today we had an exclusive chance to interview aspiring rapper Prominence:
What’s the best advice you ever received?
Never stop being yourself. That is the greatest advice anyone could ever give you.
That is advice that I personally would give and the best I’ve taken.
Do you have a mantra?
This isn’t my original slogan but its one i’d definitely live by “be greater….be yourself.” It ties back into what I said about being you. Because that’s how you become great.
What’s your best advice for handling criticism?
The thing about criticism is its always gonna come. And what helps me is being able to differentiate between criticism and straight up hate. Knowing that difference definitely helps me.
What do you want your legacy to be? How do you want to be remembered?
I don’t want to be remembered I want to be “never forgotten” to me there’s a big difference between the two. You can be remembered for something maybe one or two great albums but if people can look back on me and say i’ll never forget him as a person and a artist…..thats how I know I’ve succeeded.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
The industry is a tough place to be. As a independent artist the toughest part for me is getting off the asphalt and hitting a suitable stride in the air. I feel there should be more of a gateway and sometimes it makes you wonder how the “Lil baby’s” and the “drakes” of the world made it into the game in the first place. Its a tough world, we need more helping hands but as a independent artist you gotta be weary of which hand you reach out to.
What is your legal age?
18.
What is your stage name and how did you come up with it?
My stage name is Prominence. I wanted a name that described my character and attitude so I went and researched and found Prominence was a good fit.
Where are you from?
Lawrenceville, GA
Where are you now?
I am currently in Spartanburg, SC at Wofford College, where I play football.
Where and how do you work best?
I work mostly in my home studio, but I love going into the booth to get the finished product. However, I can work anywhere when it is time to work.
